48 Hours of Fashion returns to Nottingham

The Nottingham Business Improvement District’s 48 Hours of Fashion is making a welcome return to the city this Spring and is set to be bigger and better than ever before.

Taking place over the last weekend in March – Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March – a large marquee will be erected in the Old Market Square to accommodate the event which will once again feature choreographed fashion performances on the hour every hour. Creating a fashion map of the city, each performance will focus on a different part of the city, with images of the area appearing on the backdrop. All the items featured in the performance will be available from the retailers in that area.

These will be followed on the half hour with a series of master classes on a variety of topics ranging from top fashion tips to how to accessorise your outfit. It will also be free of charge to attend these.

This year the event will see a new stylist, Louise McDowell, who has styled events all over the UK and who has worked on both New York and Paris Fashion Week. She has also recently styled boy band Union J for their debut single and has worked with the likes of Bono in addition to being involved in X factor and various music videos.

There will also be a new choreographer, Glen Ball, who has worked with many international pop artists including Madonna and who choreographed the first X Factor Arena tour. He is one of the most exciting young British choreographers.

For the first time this year, as part of 48 Hours of Fashion, the BID will be organising a competition for people to design a special t-shirt. Being organised in conjunction with the Maggie’s Centre in order to raise funds for their Nottingham centre, the competition will result in the t-shirt of the winning design being sold during the event.

“Each year 48 Hours of Fashion goes from strength to strength with more and more of Nottingham’s fashion retailers and other businesses getting involved,” said Nicola Tidy, director of the Nottingham BID and chair of its marketing advisory group. “Last year these included the likes of Misd Selfridge, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, House of Fraser, Next New Look and Primark as well as vintage and charity shops including Braderie and Oxfam. It was also endorsed by Nottingham’s most famous designer and fashion retail specialist Paul Smith Lots of retailers have already said that they are keen to get involved in this year’s event so we are confident that it will be an even greater success, helping to strengthen Nottingham’s position as a top retail destination and benefiting our members – the city’s retail and leisure businesses.”

The BID will also be working with local retailers to organise other events during the 2 day event including instore activities like flash sales.
