Nottingham team restore historic building for Southwell Diocese

A team of Nottingham companies have been appointed to deliver the £1m project to refurbish the historic Grade 2 listed Dunham House into high specification apartments and restore the building to its former glory for the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

Following the successful completion of the new Diocesan offices in the summer the same team has been retained for this next stage, with construction consultancy Gleeds leading and managing the project on behalf of the Diocese. Mabers are the architects on the project, with Edmond Shipway providing all mechanical and electrical consultancy (M & E) services. North Midland Construction’s Building and Civil Engineering division is the main contractor delivering the refurbishment works.

The historic, Grade 2 listed Dunham House is being refurbished into 7 high specification apartments. The existing character of the building will be retained to ensure the building is sympathetic to the standard of accommodation in the historic market town of Southwell.

Mark Blakeway, Board Director of the Building and Civil Engineering division said, “It is always particularly satisfying to do further work for a client as a result of a successful job and delivering best value on a high specification design is key to winning this contract. It’s great to be working within the same team which successfully completed the new Diocesan offices, and who have all seamlessly focussed on this challenging modernisation of the historic Grade 2 listed Dunham House.

Stuart Senior, Main Board Director at Gleeds Nottingham said, “We are delighted to be re-appointed by the Diocese and relish the challenge of working on listed iconic structures like Dunham House, especially with a key objective being to ensure the new buildings appeal to a contemporary market but retain the traditional structure and appearance that is required by the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.”

Nigel Spraggins, Chief Executive of the Dioceses of Southwell and Nottingham said, “We are pleased to be able to continue to work with the same team of predominantly locally based partners and look forward to a well conceived refurbishment delivered to a high standard.”
