Manics music video producers win Lloyds TSB Award for Enterprise

A Valleys-based production company has seen their business go from strength to strength after being crowned the Best Enterprise in Wales in the prestigious Lloyds TSB Enterprise Awards 2013, even producing the Manic Street Preachers latest music video.

Like an Egg Productions beat stiff competition from five other organisations to be named the winner, for which they received a £5,000 investment from Lloyds TSB and two years of mentoring from successful, local entrepreneurs.

In order to win the competition, the Ponypridd-based business, which makes films for a variety of organisations, ranging from charities and corporate clients to the Manic Street Preachers, demonstrated why their business was such a good investment for Lloyds TSB. Work that they’d done with companies like the Wales Millennium Centre, Communities 1st and Otley Brewing Company helped to demonstrate the calibre of their offering.

Since winning the award, Like an Egg has worked closely with the Manic Street Preachers to produce two of their recent videos for the singles ‘Rewind the Film’ and ‘Show Me the Wonder’. The video for ‘Show me the Wonder’ is set in a Welsh working men’s club in the seventies and was filmed in Cymmer Pioneer Club.

Keiran McGaughey, co-founder of Like an Egg, said: “Winning the Lloyds TSB competition was a real boost to the company and we are planning to invest our winnings into more up to date camera equipment. At the moment we have to hire kit for each job which adds to the cost and ultimately, our own equipment will help us reduce our fees and increase our profit.

“Winning the competition really helped us to raise our profile and being linked with a company like Lloyds TSB has been great for adding a sense of legitimacy to the firm. Ultimately, mentioning our win to prospective clients really helps us to get a foot in the door.”

Greg Warren, relationship director for Lloyds TSB Commercial, said: “Lloyds TSB is committed to the small and medium-sized business market and encouraging enterprise. All the finalists had their own strengths but Like an Egg presented us with a business plan for the £5,000 which would clearly bring benefits to their organisation.

“It has been extremely gratifying to see the way that Like an Egg has used the win to their advantage, targeting new clients and winning new business.”

Keiran added: “Our goal when we started Like an Egg was to run a company that produced films of the highest quality, but from a base in the Valleys. So far we have been successful in bringing work to Pontypridd and hopefully, as our portfolio develops we’ll continue to attract business here from other firms in London.”
