Colliers International has stepped up support for the Bristol Children’s Help Society residential centre at Barton Camp near Winscombe.
Surveyors and staff from the Broad Quay-based commercial property agency returned to the hilltop centre this week as part of their annual charity commitment to carry out a range of tasks aimed at helping to maintain the residential centre.
They carried out a range of maintenance work with the generous assistance of local construction firm Longcroft Building Services limited.
Bristol Children’s Help Society was set up in 1884 to support disadvantaged children from the city and surrounding areas. The society runs free or heavily subsided holidays at Barton Camp giving youngsters the support they need and an opportunity to experience activities in the countryside. It is particularly popular with parties of school children on residential visits.
Charity day organiser James Edwards said the seven-acre site which features dormitories, kitchens, classrooms, sports hall, swimming pool, assault course, playing fields and nature trail provides much-needed support for hundreds of children every year.
He said: “We felt Barton Camp was such a worthy cause we should return and continue our work completing a number of the projects we didn’t quite have time to work through last summer. We enlisted the help of Longcroft Building Services, who really pulled out all the stops, generously providing all of the materials and equipment needed to complete our tasks including paint and varnishes.
“We painted some of the dormitories and helped out on some of the wooded areas that form part of the camp’s nature trail and grounds.
“Essentially we are providing vital man power to undertake those jobs which the caretaking team simply have not got the capacity to do.”
Staff from Colliers International’s Bristol office recently completed a fun Tryathlon event at Tockington School to raise cash for Cancer Research. Surveyors Nick Williams, Mike Bull, Richard Wright and Mark Kelly also took part in the Oxfam Trailtrekker – tackling the rugged Yorkshire Dales course back in June.
