Restructuring and recovery role for Smith & Williamson’s Craig

A turnaround and restructuring specialist in southern England has joined the South Coast office of accountancy and management group Smith & Williamson.

Craig Aitchison, whose career spans four decades and hundreds of cases, has already hit the ground running with the restructuring and recovery services team in Southampton.

The chartered certified accountant was previously with Grant Thornton for nearly 18 years and, prior to that, Deloitte.

Craig has an executive role at RRS and works closely with management teams, funders and professional advisers on a range of assignments.

These include recovery and reorganisation, turnarounds, strategic reviews, due diligence, investigation and pre-lending reviews and viability reports.

Craig also has expertise in the independent schools sector, including strategic advice, cash management, business reviews, school sales/mergers and insolvency assignments for both schools and funders.

As a result, he has developed a specific knowledge of charity, company and insolvency law and its practical application.

Greg Palfrey, a partner at Smith & Williamson who leads restructuring and recovery services in the UK, outside of London, said: “Craig has a deep working knowledge, with exceptional experience in advising underperforming businesses and organisations.

“He repeatedly delivers for clients, often through the provision of astute options that other parties, often under intense financial pressure, had not considered.

“Craig has already hit the ground running, advising ailing companies on the best steps to take to mitigate further financial problems.”

Craig said: “The restructuring and recovery services team here at Smith & Williamson is second-to-none, with professionalism, efficiency and sense of purpose at every level.”
