Europcar’s expansion drive leads to Derby’s West Meadows Estate

Europcar, the leader in car hire services in Europe, has relocated to a larger and more prominent site at Derby’s West Meadows Industrial Estate after outgrowing its city centre base.

Europcar has taken a 4,942 sq ft unit which estate owners London and Cambridge Properties Ltd (LCP) have refurbished at a cost of £200,000 as part of a wider £500,000 investment in West Meadows.

The relocation to the easily accessible branch at Cranmer Road, just off Pentagon Island, will provide greater visibility for Europcar to local business and leisure customers and joins an extensive Europcar network across the East Midlands. Customers have access to a range of vehicles and vans and they can collect and drop off vehicles from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar UK Group, said: “We needed a larger site in a great location in order to continue to grow our business in the region. Derby is an important area for us, both for business travellers and for leisure customers looking to visit attractions such as the National Forest, Alton Towers and the Peak District.

“This new branch enables us to give Derby residents and visitors the widest possible choice and flexibility to get on the road as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. LCP carried out extensive works at the site to ensure it met our requirements and we are confident we made the right choice.”

The new location also extends the reach of the company’s freeDeliver service, giving leisure customers free delivery and collection to their home. Valid for all bookings for two days or more, it’s free of charge within five miles of any of Europcar’s UK locations. Customers can have their car delivered to any residential address within an agreed one hour window and Europcar collects the vehicle at the end of the booking.

Andrew Preston, LCP’s Industrial Property Manager, said: “We are pleased Europcar has chosen to relocate to West Meadows. It demonstrates the appeal of the estate with its proximity to Derby city centre and its access to major road links.

“We have invested £500,000 in refurbishing four units, including Europcar’s new base, as part of our commitment to the site. We have a further unit of approximately 6,000 sq ft under offer, leaving an additional 5,499 to 22,446 sq ft available to let for businesses looking for trade counter, warehouse and production units.”

George Dunnicliff of FHP was the agent who handled the letting to Europcar.

LCP is one of the UK’s largest private owners of industrial and retail property. Its total commercial property portfolio in excess of 14 million sq ft is held for long term investment purposes.
