New name for Newark

New market town jobs are about to be created following the letting of a former Lincolnshire Co-operative store.

Today, Lincoln-based chartered surveyor Banks Long & Co revealed it has
leased premises in Victoria Street to variety retailer B&M.

The move follows Lincolnshire Co-operative opening its new £730,000 Albert
Street food store and filling station in the town in February and the relocation
of its Victoria Street staff to that development.

Banks Long & Co Director James Butcher said: “We have been in discussion with B&M on a number of sites so were able to tie-up the deal relatively quickly following the Co-op’s relocation earlier in the year.

“B&M is one of the fastest growing retailers in the country and the fact that it has decided to open in Newark underlines the strength of the town as a retailing destination.”

B&M was formed in 1978 and kick-started its store opening programme with an outlet in Blackpool in Lancashire.

Today it boasts more than 330 stores which, together, provide employment for
more than 10,000 people.
