Recipe for success in Coventry

A commercial property deal in Coventry could help provide the recipe for success for a new venture.

Shortland Penn + Moore has let a charming Grade II listed property in Ryley Street, Coventry, to businessmen Joe Gavin and Tony Nickols, who have launched the Artisan Bar & Grill.

The pair have taken the 2,786 sq ft property and have maintained its external character while transforming the inside to create a stylish and relaxed venue to dine or socialise.

The Artisan Bar & Grill has taken on highly-regarded head chef Adam Patrick and nine other new staff to get the business off the ground.

In the first few weeks of trading it has exceeded expectations and is attracting a range of customers for its simple, quality food as well as those who want to relax in the bar and listen to live music.

David Penn, managing director of Shortland Penn + Moore, said: “We knew we had a great property on our hands that just needed the right people to come in and make full use of it.

“We were delighted to agree this new letting and it’s pleasing to see the excellent job that has been undertaken internally and the great effort the team are putting in to make this something different for Coventry.”

Tony Nickols, co-director at The Artisan Bar & Grill alongside Joe Gavin, said: “We have been looking for a property for some time and this represented a great opportunity.

“The building is great and while we don’t have a massive amount of passing trade, we feel we can attract people to us from venues such as the Belgrade Theatre because we are offering something very different for the city.

“We are not tied to a brewery so we have got quite a lot of freedom in where we can go with The Artisan Bar & Grill but we want to keep things relatively simple.

“We offer great steaks, a hearty Sunday roast, a relaxed atmosphere for people to come along and eat food that is all cooked on-site and enjoy themselves.

“The place hasn’t been open long but we are already building up a clientele as the word gets out there through traditional advertising and also through our website and Facebook.

“That’s much better than we could have expected at this stage but we do believe we have a strong business here and are very much looking forward to making it a big success.”
