International award for Ricoh Arena’s major events manager

The major events manager at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry is celebrating winning a top international award.

Justine Hewitt was presented with the Rising Star Award at a gala dinner at The Stadium Business Awards 2013 which were held at the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester.

The 29-year-old was shortlisted alongside representatives from Liverpool, Cardiff City, the Metalist Stadium in the Ukraine, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment in Canada and the Aviva Stadium in the Republic of Ireland.

Justine, who has been promoted to major events manager at the Ricoh Arena during the last 12 months, is a key part of the venue’s operational team which was underlined by her role in last summer’s Olympic Games Football Tournament.

She said: “Over the last few years I have worked on many different events alongside a great team at the Ricoh.

“I am very lucky to have had so many opportunities because the events programme at the Ricoh Arena is extremely diverse which has enabled me to gain valuable experience in many areas.

“Over the last year I have particularly enjoyed being involved in the Olympics and concerts as well as large-scale conferences and exhibitions which are not widely publicised.

“We are now working hard behind the scenes for Bruce Springsteen’s concert later this month which is certain to be another night to remember at the Ricoh Arena.

“I am honoured to have won the award and I would like to thank everyone who I work with at the Ricoh because I wouldn’t have achieved this without their support and help.”

Liz Cooper, marketing director at the Ricoh Arena, said the Rising Star Award was to identify the stadium industry’s future leader who is going to go on to great things.

“Justine has demonstrated a number of different skills in the high-profile events we have held over the last 12 months including the Olympics, Coldplay’s concert and the Davis Cup,” she said.

“She has juggled different aspects of the detailed planning which is involved to showing leadership abilities by guiding various departments.

“Justine is also not afraid of sheer hard work which was vital to the smooth running of the Olympics which was the most high-profile event in our history.

“It was clear we needed a major events manager to help plan and deliver a very busy events schedule and this award is testament to how successful she has been. I am also extremely proud to be part of this team and it is a pleasure to work in such an exciting environment.

“Justine’s dedication along with her ability was instrumental in winning the award and we are all delighted for her.”
