New owners for characterful 17th century pub

The George Inn was brought to market by specialist property adviser Christie + Co on behalf of Julie Palmer, Simon Campbell and Gavin Savage of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, the Joint Administrators of Powder Train LLP, which entered administration on Wednesday 6th February 2013.

Situated just outside Warminster, in the village of Longbridge Deverill, the George Inn dates from the 17th century and is a bar/restaurant with seating for 44 covers. It also has a function room that accommodates 120 covers and 12 en suite letting bedrooms. The Inn has extensive garden areas and a paddock.

The business has been acquired by the Hampshire-based Upham Pub Company. This is the sister company to the Upham Brewery which acquired its first pub in Berkshire last month. It has expressed ambitious plans to increase the scale of its pub portfolio. David Butcher, Director, Upham Ale Company says: “Upham Pub Company are delighted to have secured this the fourth pub in our estate. It is an impressive site and location and we believe that with a focussed investment it can generate further and significant returns.”

Ed Bellfield, Director of Christie + Co, says: “When we placed the pub on the market on behalf of the Administrators in February we knew the pedigree of the site was such that it would generate great interest. This pub attracted significant interest, confirming our expectation that highly characterful pubs would attract competitive bidding processes.”
