Scaling the heights for Weston Hospicecare

Gordon Isgrove, a director at commercial property adviser GVA in Bristol, has made it to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro – and back again – raising £2,000 for Weston Hospicecare.

Five days of trekking with a group of nine friends saw them successfully scale the highest freestanding mountain in the world at 5,985m (19,341ft).

“We wanted a memorable challenge and this was certainly it,” says Gordon, who chose to raise money for Weston Hospicecare who provided much needed support and care for his late grandfather and a close family friend.

Following the Machame route, the first four days saw glorious weather and stunning views over the beautiful landscape. Despite altitude sickness kicking in on the final day as they headed towards the summit, and just two hours sleep, everyone made it to the top.

“It was a real struggle for our entire group, but what an amazing experience. I am so glad we achieved it, and for such a great cause.

“Thank you to everyone, especially those at GVA, who supported me financially and I know the money raised will be gratefully received by Weston Hospicecare, and put to good use for those with a life limiting illness.”
