IM Properties (IMP) has confirmed that global transport and logistics company DSV is set to become the first occupier of the expansion of Mercia Park, creating 420 additional jobs subject to planning permission.
The £150 million Mercia Park expansion, located at Junction 11 of the M42, could deliver between 1000 and 1,700 jobs on site when fully occupied. DSV is set to take c. 600,000 sq ft which will leave a further plot capable of delivering up to 450,000 sq ft designed for local and national manufacturers and logistics companies.
The site has been identified as a potential location for future development in North-West Leicestershire District Council’s emerging plan, with the planning application due be presented to Planning Committee shortly.
DSV currently occupies around one million sq ft at its existing flagship facility within Mercia Park, sitting alongside Jaguar Land Rover’s 3 million sq ft Global Logistics Centre, which together employ more than 2,500 people on site.
The continued growth and success of DSV, following its transformative acquisition of Schenker, has driven the need for additional space to support its expansion.
Richard Sykes, development director at IM Properties, said:
“DSV’s continued investment in Mercia Park demonstrates the long-term confidence occupiers have in both the quality of the location and our partnership approach with occupiers and local stakeholders.
“Their commitment to community and sustainability aligns closely with our Sustainable Futures strategy and we’re proud to create further growth and job opportunities in North-West Leicestershire and support them as they expand their operations here.”
In addition to IMP’s significant investment in the local community and developing skills and training during the delivery of Mercia Park, DSV has been building on this legacy – supporting local school visits, participating in off-site litter picking, and contributing to wider community engagement initiatives that reflect its commitment to creating impact through social value.
Mercia Park’s expansion will reflect IMP’s commitment to industry leading sustainability standards, targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A rating, with a range of energy-efficient measures in place and green infrastructure to connect the two schemes and enhance the 4 km of amenity parkland, 12 hectares of woodland, wetlands, and wildflower meadows already established at Mercia Park.
