Nagra Media UK Ltd expands Cwmbran centre and creating new jobs

Nagra Media UK Ltd which develops hi-tech software applications for the rapidly growing digital TV market is expanding its operations in Cwmbran and creating 25 new highly skilled jobs.

The expansion, supported with business finance from the Welsh Government, helped secure the jobs and investment for Wales.

Nagra Media UK Ltd is part of the Swiss owned and stock exchange listed Kudelski Group, a global technology leader that operates across five continents. Its key focus is providing integrated solutions to support the different platforms that deliver digital TV including satellite, cable, internet and mobile phone networks.

Nagra Media UK’s office in Llantarnam Park was initially set up in 2006 with Welsh Government backing to create a world class support and software applications development centre. It provides dedicated R&D operations to support the group’s activities in the global digital TV market.

Business Minister Edwina Hart said:” It’s great news to hear that Nagra Media is continuing to expand its operations in Wales, creating highly skilled, well paid jobs.

“This expansion will provide additional software development capacity and their decision to expand in Wales also speaks volumes for the fact the company is able to recruit high calibre, graduate level, staff in Wales to drive forward new developments in a fast moving hi tech sector.

“ The company operates in one of our priority economic sectors and I am delighted their Cwmbran office is playing such an important role in supporting the growth and global expansion of the Kudelski Group.”

Support from the Welsh Government ensured this latest investment project came to Cwmbran as a number of existing locations within the Kudelski Group were being considered for the project.

Mark Williams, Director of Operations at Nagra Media UK Ltd said: ” The success of our Cwmbran operation is due to the quality and calibre of staff we have been able to recruit in Wales. This was a significant factor in our decision to expand the centre in Wales.

“This latest investment is a sign of our commitment to Wales and we value the on-going support we have received from the Welsh Government since opening the centre seven years ago.”

The Welsh Government investment package was secured with the aid of Newport-based accountancy specialists Kilsby & Williams, whose partner, Simon Tee, said: “Nagra Media UK Ltd came to us with a plan for expansion, bringing a significant increase in highly-skilled employment at their Cwmbran base.

“These jobs could have been placed by the group in a number of overseas locations so it was important we demonstrated a strong case for retaining them here in Wales, and the owners were persuaded that the project should be housed in Wales on the basis of the skilled workforce available in the area and the funding assistance from the Welsh Government.”

Nagra Media now employs 75 in Cwmbran which includes twenty jobs already created as a result of the expansion.
