Maple Grove Developments, part of the Eric Wright Group, has started work on site to deliver a 57,000 sq ft mixed-use development in Hattersley.
Representatives from Maple Grove and its contractor Britcon UK joined guests from Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council (TMBC) to mark the occasion and were also joined by MP Jonathan Reynolds as well as the vendor of the site, Onward Homes and occupiers who have already signed for the scheme.
The new mixed-use scheme will include an Aldi food store, Costa Coffee café/drive-thru and 16 ultra rapid electric vehicle charging points following a deal with national EV charging network Be.EV in April. The scheme will include up to eight new employment units from 3,000 – 6,000 sq ft on a 5.5-acre landscaped site. Hattersley Trade Park is targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and an EPC rating of A.
Andrew Dewhurst, development director at Maple Grove commented: “It’s a significant milestone to have spades in the ground at this superb site which has lain dormant for many years. It will provide new employment and leisure facilities, and create jobs for people in the local area. We have worked closely with Onward Homes and Tameside Council to create a true mixed-use development which will benefit the people of Tameside and we’re proud to be on site and delivering our vision for Hattersley.”
Councillor Eleanor Wills, Executive Leader at Tameside Council said: “This marks yet another fantastic step in the development of the Hattersley district centre, building on the incredible progress already achieved. Through strong partnership and investment, in Hattersley, we’ve brought significant improvements – revitalising and creating new public spaces, bringing much-needed housing and providing valuable community support as well as for residents and young people. It’s great to see the success here and we want more of this for all our towns across the borough.”
Sandy Livingstone, Executive Director – Property at Onward, said: “We are extremely pleased to see this new development move forward after considerable effort from partners over many years. Once complete, these new facilities will provide local people with greater choice, as well as improving employment opportunities within the wider Hattersley community.”
The development is located adjacent to Stockport Road and Ashworth Lane and will include 179 customer car parking spaces.
Completion is anticipated to be in June 2026.
Knight Frank has been appointed as sole letting agent for the trade counter units. The project team include: The Harris Partnership, Abacus Cost Management and ICIS Design.
