MCS Group wins £8m contract to deliver urban logistics hub in Filton

Keir Edmonds, managing director at MCS Group

Main contractor MCS Group has been appointed to deliver a multi-let urban logistics development on brownfield land at the former Rolls Royce site at Filton, north Bristol.

The £8 million construction contract has been awarded to MCS Group by Bristol-based developer Cubex Land, which has been developing and investing in property in the South West and South Wales since 2004.

West Midlands-based MCS Group will deliver two blocks divided into eight Grade A units at Horizon 38, Patchway. The 75,000 sq ft scheme will target a BREEAM Excellent and EPC A rating and will include EV charging points, photovoltaic systems and roof lights to encourage the transition to a low carbon economy. There will also be a green living roof on one of the buildings.

During construction, the scheme will use low emitting or low carbon materials where possible and promote the use of locally sourced goods and materials.

The site is the last remaining plot on the wider Horizon 38 scheme, a hugely successful development with investment grade occupiers on the scheme and within the immediate area including Rolls Royce, Airbus, GKN Aerospace, BAE Systems, Ceva Logistics and Royal Mail. It is also adjacent to YTL’s Brabazon development on the former Filton Airfield.

Keir Edmonds, managing director at MCS Group, said: “We are enormously excited to have been instructed by Cubex to deliver this very high quality urban logistics development. The site is in a fantastic location, with major occupiers nearby, and we are looking forward to working with Cubex – a highly regarded investor and developer in the region – for the first time.”

The site is 1.6 miles south of the M4/M5 interchange and five miles north of Bristol city centre with Bristol Parkway mainline station one mile away, providing trains to London Paddington in one hour-15mins.

Award-winning MCS Group delivers projects across the industrial, storage and distribution sector. The company, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, has also built and refurbished more than 300 car dealerships including Audi, BMW, McLaren and Jaguar Land Rover since its inception in 2003.
