Snowball event fills Santa’s sleigh for local children

There’s no need for Santa Claus to come to town this year after Birmingham’s business community donated hundreds of Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children in the West Midlands.

The Snowball 2012, organised by Property for Kids, saw more than 300 guests gather at The Jam House in St Paul’s Square to enjoy live music from Beatles tribute band HELP! and Hot Property, whose band members all work in the property industry.

Guests each brought a festive gift to the event, which were donated to Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid. The event also raised more than £1,800, which has been donated to local children’s Christmas parties.

Jilly Cosgrove, managing director of Barques Design and Property for Kids committee member, said: “Yet again, the Snowball was a fantastic evening and, on behalf of Property for Kids, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended. The gifts will be delivered to several hostels and women’s refuges throughout the West Midlands, helping to bring some happiness to those less fortunate this Christmas.”

Sally Dennis, operations manager at Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid, said: “I want to thank everyone who attended the Snowball for their overwhelming generosity. We were blown away by the sheer number of presents. These will make such a difference this Christmas to children living in refuges across the city.”

Established in the 1980s, Property for Kids is the collective name for a group of individuals who form a committee, with the sole intent of raising money for disadvantaged children in the West Midlands. ‘PFK’ supports many charities, large and small, primarily those with which our donation will provide a useful asset, such as a safe playground, a minibus or specialist equipment.
