New skills centre opens after £14 million deal

A training company is opening a new learning centre in Nottinghamshire after winning a £14 million contract to help unemployed people and workers facing redundancy.

Derby Business College Training (DBC) instructed national commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) when its success meant it needed to expand its training services in Mansfield.

LSH’s office agency team carried out a detailed space analysis to get an understanding of the company’s new requirements. After considering various options, DBC opted for two-storey refurbished offices at Sherwood Court, Sherwood Street. The company signed a five-year lease on the 2,258 sq ft unit.

Kerry Bentley, managing director of DBC, said: “We have secured a £14 million three-year contract from the Skills Funding Agency and European Social Fund to deliver skills support to unemployed people in the East Midlands, and those under threat or notice of redundancy. Our role is to help them to secure sustainable employment.

“We already had offices in Derby, Nottingham and Mansfield but needed further accommodation in Mansfield from which to deliver a wider range of services and better resources to our learners. We worked very closely with LSH and they secured the perfect premises for us.”

She added: “At DBC Training we are always looking to improve our facilities and range of services, and the new premises at Sherwood Court is an excellent place for our clients to gain new skills and improve their career prospects.”

Will Bradley, surveyor in LSH’s office agency team in Nottingham, said: “It is always rewarding to be able to help a business expand by finding the ideal premises. DBC Training has won a substantial new contract and will be helping thousands of local people gain new skills and get back into work.

“We are delighted to have been able to help them find offices that provide excellent facilities for their employees and clients in an easily accessible location.” Joint letting agent was Laura West of FHP.

Since 2000, DBC Training has helped over 25,000 people change their lives, by helping them achieve qualifications and gain new skills. It has also supported many individuals into sustainable employment, with support each step of the way.
