Mansfield site set for regeneration

A planning application has been submitted for a mixed use development to include a new neighbourhood retail parade in Mansfield, in a bid to breathe fresh life into a derelict site.

The planning application, which has been submitted by Nottingham-based developers Regent Street Developments, is due to be considered by Mansfield District Council in October.

The site, which is located on Woodhouse Road at the junction of Birding Street, was previously home to the Ma Hubbard’s restaurant. The plan for the site is to demolish the former restaurant and create a new neighbourhood retail development which will include a convenience store and two other retail units, occupiers for which are yet to be confirmed. There will also be 18 customer car parking spaces.

At the back of the retail parade there are plans to create 11 residential properties, which will be a mixture of town houses and semi-detached houses.

Charles Trafford, of Trafford Oliver, is marketing the site on behalf of Regent Street Developments. Charles said: “My clients recognised that this site has great potential and a development of this kind will really benefit the local community. It is really positive news that developers are prepared to invest in both commercial and residential developments in the area.

“The site and the now abandoned Ma Hubbard’s restaurant are derelict. There is a real opportunity to regenerate a site which has come to the end of its previous economic life. Not only will the retail units bring jobs to the area, but the development will also provide much needed housing.

“We have already confirmed a national convenience retailer as a tenant and I am confident that we won’t have problems finding others.  The road is the main route linking Mansfield to Mansfield Woodhouse, and the retail outlets will benefit from plenty of passing traffic, as well as having the opportunity to serve the substantial local population.”
