It’s full steel ahead at £55m advanced manufacturing park TeesAMP, located on the site of the former Newport Ironworks in Middlesbrough.
The 11-hectare site is being transformed into a 21st-century advanced manufacturing park – addressing the national shortage of high-quality accommodation suitable for manufacturers.
Robertson North East is the principal contractor for the project.

“We extended TeesAMP’s commitment to appoint local businesses and we’re working with local sub-contractors and suppliers wherever possible.”
Phase one of TeesAMP will include 180,000 sq ft of space – with buildings ranging in size from 3,000 sq ft to 30,000 sq ft available in early 2020.
Geoff Hogg, of Cleveland Property Investments, who is working with Middlesbrough Council and Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) to bring the manufacturing park to life, said: “TeesAMP is gathering momentum and the high-quality accommodation isn’t the only thing that sets it apart from any other business park or cluster.
“Manufacturers based at TeesAMP will have access to a wrap-around package of business support and a ready supply of highly-skilled workers from local educational institutions such as Middlesbrough College and Teesside University.
“We’re in talks with a number of national and international companies interested in ‘making it in Middlesbrough’ – bringing skilled advanced manufacturing jobs with them.
“TeesAMP truly is the go-to location for the next generation of manufacturers who want great connectivity, world-leading skills and first-class accommodation.”
Set in a prime location in Middlesbrough, at the heart of Tees Valley, there are excellent transport links to the site by rail, road and air.
TeesAMP will also see the creation of new educational resources centered on the history of the ironworks – as well as collaborations with other heritage sites and visitor attractions – giving schools, colleges and the general public access to the site and an unrivalled educational opportunity moving forward.
Funding comes from Middlesbrough Council (£12.5m); Tees Valley Combined Authority (£7.65m); SSI Taskforce (£2.3m) as well as substantial private investment.
