PureComms has won ‘New Apprentice Employer of the Year’ at the Weston College Apprenticeship Awards.

The ceremony was held at Doubletree by Hilton, Cadbury House, with journalist, TV and radio presenter Penny Smith hosting the event.

Local and regional employers and their apprentices, plus members of the College’s leadership and governance team, attended the event which highlighted the outstanding achievements that are happening within the College’s apprenticeship provision.

Dr Paul Phillips OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of the Weston College Group, said: “These awards reflect the tremendous successes of our learners in partnership with business and industry.

“Tonight is about recognising those young people and adults who have achieved against the odds, as well as the employers that have supported and been the catalysts for change in these apprentices’ lives.”

Last September, PureComms took on Matthew Thomas, 19, as an apprentice. He joined the PureComms team as a Business Admin apprentice and his role sees him working across the sales, marketing and operations teams within the business.

It has been a successful partnership. Directors at the company praised Matthew for his ‘fresh’ ideas and approach, and he was selected to take part in a government apprenticeship drive called ‘Get in Go Far’, which highlights how apprenticeships can benefit businesses and individuals.

Jane Vivian, Business Development Director at PureComms, said: “It’s been an absolute delight to work with Weston College, they have supported us throughout the whole process.

“It was a fantastic evening in terms of the vibrancy and the energy of the event and it’s been great to see the achievements of both students and businesses being recognised.”
