Opus Energy powers into Cardiff with VIP launch

L-R: Kate Simpson of Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), Councillor Monica Walsh, The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Ken Poole, Head of Economic Development at Cardiff Council and Andy Nash, Operations Director for Opus.

The Mayor of Cardiff and Cardiff Council’s Head of Economic Development were among the dignitaries who attended the launch of Opus Energy’s new offices at No 2 Capital Quarter in Cardiff this week.

Opus Energy, founded in 2002, is the sixth largest supplier of gas and electricity to businesses in the UK and employs more than 750 people. Its decision to expand its operations into Cardiff will create 100 jobs over the next 12 months with the possibility of further expansion.

National commercial property consultants Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) and Knight Frank worked closely and collectively with Cardiff Council to bring Opus Energy to the city in a campaign that communicated the benefits of the Welsh capital over other regions.

Says Kate Simpson Head of LSH’s Office Agency team:  “I am pleased to have played a part in this inward investment triumph and confident Capital Quarter and indeed Cardiff will provide the perfect base for Opus Energy both in relation to the building’s location and high specification and the facilities our city offers its staff”.

Number 1 Capital Quarter was completed in 2014 and occupiers include Finance Wales, Alert Logic, Network Rail and WSP. Agents for the development Knight Frank have also negotiated a letting of 51,652 sq ft in Number 2 Capital Quarter to Public Health Wales who will join Opus Energy over the coming months.

“We’re really excited to be bringing Opus Energy to Cardiff and to build on our commitment to deliver an unparalleled service for our customers” comments Operations Director, Andy Nash. “We are particularly looking forward to moving in to Capital Quarter – a brand new regeneration space in Cardiff – and to finalising our recruitment drive in the local area.”

The home of Opus Energy’s new office, Capital Quarter is Cardiff’s largest redevelopment project. Much of the site is now operational, but once fully complete, the development will house one million square feet of residential, student, office and retail space. By establishing itself in Cardiff’s bustling city centre and within easy reach of the university, Opus Energy has already appointed 19 members of staff and will be undergoing a significant recruitment initiative to hire a full team for its new office.
