Luxury retailer returns to Truro after a 5 year absence

Marcus Reed explains his plans for the new store to Mike Nightingale of Miller Commercial

Upmarket electronic retailer Bang & Olufsen (B&O) is returning to the city, and indeed Cornwall (the nearest store is in Exeter) following a 5 year absence.

The Danish firm has joined forces with Marcus Reed, owner and MD of Senso Systems in Truro to launch its new concept store.

The chain upped sticks from Frances Street in 2011 along with the Bristol store, due to a strategic amalgamation both to create a flagship store in Bristol.

Now after a deal negotiated by Miller Commercial Chartered Surveyors, Marcus Reed of Senso Systems and Bang and Olufsen has secured the lease for a store in Boscawen Street above the co-operative supermarket.

Partner in charge of Agency at Miller Commercial, Mike Nightingale says “During the recession the luxury sector struggled but now the time is right for the high end brands to get a physical presence back in our towns and cities.

He says “In recent months we’ve seen the French natural beauty company L’Occitane, and the preppy clothing brand Jack Wills establish a branch Truro, now Bang and Olufsen are following suit.

While the move to online shopping has signalled the death knell for many large brands, the luxury segment, which has its strength in expert customer service, has a unique opportunity to make its best and most innovative operators a lot of money.

It will be interesting to see which brands grab this opportunity with the greatest alacrity, and who’ll be next to move into Truro.

It is certainly the case that Miller Commercial is receiving interest from other high end operators looking for a suitable foot hold in the city.”

Managing Director of Bang and Olufsen of Truro, Marcus Reed is busy working on the project to transform the 2,500 sq. ft. of first floor space into a state of the art shopping experience.
