A Welsh entrepreneur who passed away earlier this month has been posthumously recognised at a national awards ceremony.

Businessman Peter O’Toole, founder and chief executive of Langstone-based Retail Merchandising Services, was highly commended at the Institute of Directors’ Director of the Year Awards in London.

Earlier this year Mr O’Toole was named director of the year in a medium / large business at the IoD Wales Director of the Year Awards and as a result was shortlisted for SME company director of the year award.

His sons Daniel and Connah picked up the award on his behalf.

Daniel O’Toole, Development Director of RMS, said: “To have been awarded such an honour in the year of the company’s tenth anniversary would have been an immense source of pride to dad.

“This commendation is really a testament to the hard-work and dedication of the entire team at RMS.”

Mr O’Toole, described as a “visionary” retail expert, founded RMS in 2005 to enhance and improve the retail experience for customers across the UK.

The firm’s clients include the likes of Asda, B&Q, Boots, Tesco, Morrisons and John Lewis, and it employs more than 800 staff across the UK.

In 2013 it was named the fastest growing firm in the retail and wholesale sector at the Wales Fast Growth 50 awards.

Mr O’Toole died at his home in Llanwern earlier this month after battling with mesothelioma, a rare form of asbestos-related lung cancer, for more than a year.
