Mission Mars secures new venue in Digbeth

Midlands leading Retail & Leisure Property Consultancy, Creative Retail, is pleased to announce the completion of a new letting to Mission Mars, the award-winning food, drink and hospitality operator on behalf of Oval Estates – owners of The Custard Factory.

Creative Retail identified the ideal home for Mission Mars’ first bar venue in Birmingham, introducing them to the former Air Nightclub at Heath Mill Lane, Digbeth. After several viewings and possibly the fastest negotiation and legal work in recent property history, Mission Mars exchanged a lease with Digbeth landlord Oval Estates just 7 days later.

Mission Mars are known for their innovative bar, restaurant and entertainment spaces as well as live and club venues. This year their Bavarian-Steam-Punk inspired ‘Albert Schloss Bar’ in Manchester won ‘Bar of the Year’ at the CityLife Awards.

Jo Salmon, of Oval Estates, said “I am thrilled to have such a innovative and unique operator taking this landmark building in the centre of Digbeth, which holds so many memories for so many people. Mission Mars’ creative and collaborative approach makes them a perfect addition to the neighbourhood and I am confident the ideas and ambition already demonstrated by Mission Mars will be a welcome addition to the exciting emerging scene in Digbeth”.

Ed Purcell of Creative Retail, who acted for the Landlord, commented – “The former nightclub sits in a very prominent corner location within the Custard Factory Estate. The building has been vacant for nearly 10 years, and it is great to conclude a letting within a matter of weeks, whilst in challenging circumstances, to a successful and proved leisure operator.”

The new bar and live music venue is called Zumhof Biergarten and is situated in the 12,000 sq.ft 1920’s factory building at 29 Heath Mill Lane, Digbeth. It will feature speciality beers such as ‘unpasteurised Pilsner’ and a food hut serving bratwursts & burgers alongside Rudy’s Pizza, another Mission Mars brand, provided fresh from the Bennett’s Hill Store every day. The premises opened its doors to the public on Saturday 4th July.
