East Midlands’ family businesses make Awards’ final stage

Thirty family businesses from across the East Midlands have made the final cut in the 2012 Midlands Family Business Awards, beating off stiff competition from the scores of family businesses from across the region entering this year.

Each of the shortlisted businesses now face the panel of independent judges, which includes Ron Lynch of the Institute of Directors, Nick Linney of The Linney Group,  Paul Southby, Chairman of Invest in Nottingham, Jason Wouhra, director of East End Foods, Perween Warsi CBE, CEO of S&A Foods, and Pukka Pies’ MD Tim Storer.

East Midlands’ family firms shortlisted for the headline Family Business of the Year Award sponsored by Midlands Accountants and Business Advisors Smith Cooper, are retailer Triplar Limited of Wellingborough, Leicester’s The City Rooms and Carrier Landscapes of Melton Mowbray.

The Awards’ Best Small Family Business category, open to family businesses with an annual turnover of up to £5million and sponsored by RSA (Royal Sun Alliance) attracted a huge number of entries. East Midlands businesses making this category’s shortlist are East Midlands Ceramics (Nottingham), Marshalls of Sutton on Trent (Newark), Mitchell Storage & Distribution (Leicester), O’Keeffe Building Services (Bulwell, Nottingham) and Shredall Group (Nottingham).

East Midlands’ professional firms have taken all the shortlist places in the Leading Advisor to Family Businesses category, sponsored by Unum – Derby’s Cooper Parry, which won the category in the inaugural Awards, Nottingham’s High Growth and Chesterfield’s Strategic Corporate Finance.
