Bristol has been ranked top for productivity among the UK’s local tech ecosystems in the annual Tech Nation report. The city was also among eight cities, alongside Bath, showing above average tech employment.
Responding to the report, Simon Peacock, lead director at property consultancy JLL in Bristol, said: “In 2017, the technology, media and telecom (TMT) sector accounted for 35 per cent of office take-up in Bristol – a percentage that is growing year on year as this crucial sector continues to flourish in the city. The supportive and collaborative nature of Bristol’s tech community as well as its vibrant talent pool are core reasons behind the city being recognised for its productivity in this sector. Particular credit rightly goes to Nick Sturge from Engine Shed for making this Bristol story such a success.
“It’s excellent to see Bristol being confirmed as the UK’s number one digital tech productivity powerhouse. But it’s also important we keep this momentum going and give other cities something to aspire to. On that note, it’s great to see the start of the Distillery building at Temple Quay which will provide new tech space to support this growing community, whilst Engine Shed 2 and the new University of Bristol campus will also offer a further boost for the sector.”
