Economic boost as leading global manufacturer expands operation

Leading foundry MRT Castings is expanding its manufacturing operation and creating jobs after acquiring a large industrial site near its Hampshire headquarters.

The company has acquired a 9,857 sq ft warehouse from DHL at Walworth Business Park in South Way, Andover.

Commercial property specialist Lambert Smith Hampton acted as agents for the £395,000 sale, which will see job creation for the Andover area and the continued growth of one of the business park’s longest-established occupiers.

MRT Castings already has a significant presence on the Walworth Business Park, with 30,000 sq ft of manufacturing facilities spread over several sites on the park.

The company, which manufacture and exports aluminium, zinc, gravity and high pressure die castings, has been at its present premises since 1966 and is celebrating its 70th year of operation this year.

Phil Rawnson, Managing Director at MRT Castings, said: “We are delighted to have completed this acquisition from DHL with the support of LSH.

“Plot 66 provides us with the opportunity to redevelop this site into a new advanced manufacturing centre for aluminium die castings and machined components.

“It provides additional capacity for future growth to run alongside our existing facilities.

“Our redevelopment plans are focused around designing a highly productive and sustainable manufacturing environment, incorporating the latest industrial automation.  With 55 employees already in Andover, we are also excited at the employment opportunities this new site will create.”

Dan Rawlings, a Surveyor in the industrial property team at LSH, said: “We were pleased to be able to secure the full price for our client DHL at this prime one-acre site.

“This is an ideal location for MRT Castings Ltd, being opposite its existing manufacturing facility and enjoying excellent transport links to the M3.

“The acquisition will enable MRT Castings Ltd to further expand its successful business and is an economic boost for the area.”
