Leading parcel delivery company DPD is set to move into its new £12 million distribution centre in South Gloucestershire after the development reached practical completion, commercial property developer Stoford has announced.

The new 68,792 sq ft unit at Vertex Park, Emersons Green, which includes distribution facilities and customer pick-up point, will create more than 100 jobs when fully operational.

The centre has been constructed following a period of unprecedented growth in the UK for DPD, thanks largely to its unique Predict service. Predict notifies customers of their one hour delivery slot in advance, so they don’t have to wait in all day for a parcel.

The new HQ has achieved the BREEAM ‘very good’ standard, and is the second project Stoford has delivered at Vertex Park in the last seven months. Midas Construction Ltd, part of the Midas Group, one of the UK’s largest independent construction and property services providers, completed the construction of the building and estate road on time and on budget.

In December last year, Birmingham-based Stoford once again worked alongside Midas to complete a £10 million office development for ALD Automotive.

Louise Ferguson, general manager of property at DPD, said: “We’re excited that our new centre at Vertex Park has been completed and we’re getting ready to move in. We’ll soon be able to start delivering parcels from here which means we will be able to provide an even higher level of service for customers in this region.

Vertex Park is part of a wider, national infrastructure investment programme for DPD.  “State-of-the-art distribution centres like this give us a huge advantage over our competitors in terms of automated efficiency and scale, as well as making sure we have capacity for future growth,” added Louise.

Stoford director Alex Morgan said: “We are very pleased to announce that we have reached practical completion on schedule, for what is a very important scheme for South Gloucestershire.

“DPD has continued to build a strong network across the country, and this expansion will further enhance its reputation here in the South West. Vertex Park is the perfect location for the delivery company to flourish. It is a prime location providing excellent transport links, as it is adjacent to the M4 motorway.”

Derek Quinn, executive director of Midas Construction, said: “As a regional contractor operating throughout the South West, South East and Midlands, Midas strives to give something back to the local community with every build so we are pleased to be involved with such an important development, not only for DPD as it continues to grow across the country, but also for the wider economy with the potential for the distribution hub to provide more than 100 jobs.”
