Retail specialist joins Innes England

Innes England has appointed leading retail specialist Peter Short as a consultant at its Nottingham office.

The Midlands property agent has appointed Peter to take on the new role in response to its growing retail team. With over 35 years of experience in the retail market, Peter brings a wealth of experience and contacts.

Peter specialises in both agency and professional work for both landlords and tenants throughout the UK, and concentrates exclusively on the retail market.  In his career, Peter has acquired and sold over 1,500 shops and, in the last three years, has acquired approximately 100 shops every year.

For 2012, one of Peter’s retained clients, Kiss Cards, is seeking new stores across the country to add to its existing 90 store branch network. Recent acquisitions for Kiss Cards include Alfreton, Northampton, and Market Harborough. Peter also undertakes a range of high street rent reviews and lease renewals for leading landlords and tenants.

Peter spent the first ten years of his career in London working for various retail companies, including MacKays and The Early Learning Centre, where he was property manager. He moved to Nottingham 25 years ago where he set up his own retail-based practice, before going into partnership with Bob Rowlands and merging with London-based Oliver Liggins.

Oliver Liggins then became Capital Retail, a successful niche retail practice covering the UK from offices in London’s West End and, until December 2011, Nottingham. Peter was an equity partner until leaving in December 2011 to join Innes England.

Peter said on his appointment:  “I am looking forward to contributing to the retail team at Innes England and working with my established contact base.  With offices in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester I am keen to focus on the enviable reputation the firm has and focus on securing more work in the East Midlands.”

Matthew Hannah, director at Innes England said:  “Peter has earned a strong reputation in the retail market and his wealth of experience will be an asset to the team and the advice we provide to our clients in this sector. Expertise and experience are vitally important in the current market and we are looking forward to working with Peter as he helps to grow the department.”

The retail team at Innes England acts for a number of retailers including Greggs, Multiyork, Feather & Black, Co-operative Group and Costa Coffee, along with Kiss Cards who Peter will continue to act for.
