Work completes on a new biotechnology HQ at Cambridge Research Park

Work has now completed on a new office and laboratory building at Cambridge Research Park, it has been announced by national fit-out specialist Overbury.

The new two-storey, 30,000 sq ft facility will be home to growing biotechnology company Horizon Discovery and provide both modern office space and technical laboratories from which the company will carry out its industry leading work in genetic remodelling.

Horizon Discovery is a life science company that deploys a powerful and flexible gene editing platform to develop human disease models that are driving the understanding of the role of genomics in disease, and are powering the development of novel molecular, cellular and gene therapies.

The approx. £3.0m fit-out from shell and core was completed on a fast track programme with design and project management carried out by Cambridge-based The Workspace Consultants.

Danny Parmar, business development manager at Overbury said: “This is a great project for our team to be involved in, and on a challenging timescale that not many contractors could meet. Our tried and tested supply chain was key to the success.

“The work that Horizon does is groundbreaking and complex, so the environment in which its staff work is key to enabling them to achieve great things. Working closely with the project management team at The Workspace Consultants, we are confident we have created the perfect space.”

Jade Kerri-Dibb, Facilities & Operations Manager at Horizon said: “We’re delighted to see work on our new UK headquarters finalised and we’re looking forward to moving in after a complex planning, design and build programme, achieved in just four months. We needed the fit-out to be completed on a very fast programme, to a high standard and of course to budget, and it is testament to the project management team, Overbury’s experience, and their tried and tested processes that we have achieved this.

“We’re a fast growing company and we now have the office and laboratory space to continue that growth in Cambridge.”

The project is the second in recent months that Overbury’ central team has completed at Cambridge Research Park, having concluded an office fit-out for communications company Sepura at the end of 2015.

Horizon has moved from its former offices in another part of the research park, after the company agreed to take a lease on its new, larger premises with landlord Rockspring.

As well as its headquarters in Cambridge, Horizon Discovery also has offices in Boston Massachusetts, St. Louis Missouri and Boyertown Pennsylvania in the USA and Vienna in Austria.
