Smith Cooper announce Partner promotion

James Delve

Midlands based accountancy and business advisory firm Smith Cooper have made a promotion to partner level in their Derby office.

As of January 2016 and following promotions two years in a row, James Delve has stepped up from his director role and joins the partnership after 7 years at the firm.

James joined Smith Cooper in 2009 as a trainee and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2012 where his hard work and excellent exam results won him a prestigious prize for finishing 4th in the International Order of Merit.

Since qualifying James led the firm’s Audit offering in Derby and worked closely with the Business Advisory team on significant transactions.

James’ promotion comes amid a huge growth period at Smith Cooper with the firm celebrating their 30th anniversary and reaching the £11million turnover mark. During 2015 the firm heavily invested in building their specialist teams, recruiting talent at all levels and across all of their offices.

The firm also announced the addition of four new group companies, adding Century Mobile, Infuse Technology, Smith Cooper System Partners and Smith Cooper Independent Mortgage and Financial Advice to their portfolio.

David Nelson, Partner at Smith Cooper commented: “James’ appointment as Partner is representative of the ongoing success and development of the firm and we are delighted to welcome him to the partnership.

“The recognition and promotion of our top talent is a high priority for our firm. At Smith Cooper, we don’t just ‘train’ staff; we nurture and support our team so they can develop and grow alongside the business. Like a number of our senior team members and Partners, James joined us as a trainee and quickly showed he had not only the technical knowledge, but also the drive and determination needed to be a Partner.

“Over the past years, James has implemented new internal policies and techniques which have significantly improved processes for our Audit team and has worked on countless client transactions proving himself as an exceptional business advisor. The promotion is testimony to his dedication and hard work to drive innovation and deliver the client service excellence that is a hallmark of Smith Cooper.”

James added: “Being promoted to Partner is the culmination of seven years of effort and hard work ensuring Smith Cooper continues to deliver on its commitments to staff and clients, and also working alongside clients offering them candid advice so their businesses continue to flourish.

“I am delighted to have been promoted to Partner level and am relishing the opportunity to continue driving our internal processes forward as well as providing our clients an unrivalled, bespoke service.”
