TWL extends contract with Cardiff Metropolitan University

TWL Voice and Data has been awarded a six-figure contract extension from Cardiff Metropolitan University to undertake all of its data cabling needs.

Following an initial three year contract, which has seen the Cardiff-based telecommunications provider undertake a number of cabling projects across the University’s main campuses, TWL has secured a new two-year contract.

The new agreement will see TWL install cabling to buildings and halls of residences at the university’s Llandaff and Cyncoed campuses, as part of a series of refurbishment works.

It will also upgrade the Wi-Fi points across all campuses to ensure the university can keep up with the number of connections per user given that most students now have smartphones, tablet computers and laptops.

The most recent project completed by TWL has been the installation of a cabling solution at the Cardiff School of Art and Design at the Llandaff campus. This involved laying over 13,000m (8.5 miles) of data cabling across four floors of the new building and linking these floors by utilising state-of-the-art fibre cabling for optimum performance.

Andrew Nicholson, managing director of TWL Voice and Data, said: “We are delighted to secure this contract extension to continue our work with Cardiff Metropolitan University. It gets the New Year off to a great start. By renewing our contract, it shows the strength of the partnership that has been developed over the past three years and because of this the contract did not go out to competitive tender.

“TWL has predominantly been a telecoms and fixed line specialist. However, any solid telephony network is based on a quality data cabling infrastructure which holds the whole system together so it made sense for us expand our range of services in order to offer our customers the complete package. Since we started working with Cardiff Metropolitan University three years ago we have doubled the amount of data cabling we have installed year on year and we now install over 4000 data points a year.”

Established by Andrew Nicholson in 2003, over the past 11 years TWL has built up an impressive reputation for providing comprehensive telecommunications solutions to businesses across South Wales.

Employing ten staff, the company provides Mitel, Toshiba and Siemens (now Unify) office telephone systems, mobile solutions through the four main UK networks, HellermannTyton data and fibre cabling and a range of broadband packages to over 400 clients.
