Glencar has announced the successful practical completion of a landmark 158,904 sq ft quayside warehouse and 5,000 sq ft timber-framed office at Grandidges Quay, Birkenhead, delivered for long-standing client and repeat partner Peel Ports Group.
The high-specification facility will serve as the new UK headquarters for specialist wood manufacturer Finsa UK, consolidating its operations to support continued growth and operational efficiency.
Located within the Wirral Waters regeneration scheme, the development comprises a 158,904 sq ft single-span warehouse with a 52m clear span, alongside a two-storey cross-laminated timber (CLT) office. The scheme has been designed and delivered with sustainability and long-term performance at its core.
Key features of the development include integrated photovoltaic panels, battery storage, rainwater reuse systems, and the use of sustainable timber throughout the office structure. A full Cat B fit-out provides high-quality office, showroom, and trade counter facilities, complemented by EV charging infrastructure, landscaping, and enhanced external works.
Beyond the built asset, the project has contributed to the local economy through the creation of jobs, apprenticeships, and engagement with the regional supply chain.
Tom Kearsley, North Regional Director at Glencar, commented:
“The successful delivery of this project marks a significant milestone for all parties involved. This facility not only supports Finsa UK’s long-term growth but also demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration, technical expertise, and a shared commitment to sustainability. We are proud to have delivered a scheme that will have a lasting positive impact on both our client and the wider Birkenhead community.”
Andrew Martin, Group Property Development Director at Peel Ports, commented:
“This project represents a major step forward in supporting Finsa UK’s continued growth at Birkenhead Port. Glencar has once again demonstrated its capability to deliver high-quality, complex developments, and we are delighted with the outcome.”
Raquel Carrillo, Managing Director at Finsa UK, added:
“Our new headquarters marks an exciting new chapter for Finsa UK. The facility provides us with the platform to enhance our operations and continue our long-standing relationship with Birkenhead. We are grateful to both Peel Ports and Glencar for their role in bringing this vision to life.”
The completion of the project reinforces Glencar’s expertise in delivering complex logistics and industrial schemes within port environments, while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and community value.
