Property professionals from across the Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West came together for the annual Tri-Regions Property Rugby Tournament, raising more than £15,000 for charity.
Hosted in Birmingham by Midlands Property, the tournament took place at Averyfields, the home of Bournville Rugby Club and the Midlands Hurricanes RLFC, bringing together three regional teams for a highly competitive and entertaining afternoon of rugby.
While the action was intense, the focus of the day extended far beyond the results, with funds raised in support of two important charities: The Lewis Moody Trust and Alzheimer’s Society.
The event also provided a moment of reflection, as players, organisers and spectators observed a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off in memory of former Midlands Property player Matt Gallagher, who recently passed away following a battle with motor neurone disease (MND).
On the pitch, all three sides delivered strong performances across a closely contested series of fixtures:
Midlands vs Yorkshire – 19-17 to Midlands
Yorkshire vs North West – 5-43 to North West
North West vs Midlands – 0-27 to Midlands
The Midlands Property rugby team, which represents professionals from across the regional property sector, was established in 2008 by Jonathan Robinson and Adam McGuinness. Since its inception, the team has played a key role in bringing the industry together while supporting charitable causes.
Jonathan Robinson, development director of Barberry Group, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have brought the Tri-Regions tournament together again and to have raised over £15,000 for two fantastic charities that are all very close to our hearts. Days like this show what the property industry is all about – collaboration, camaraderie and giving something back. The standard of rugby was excellent across all three regions, but more importantly, the support from players, sponsors and the wider network made a real difference.”
Adam McGuinness, of Midlands Property Rugby, said: “This year’s tournament carried even more meaning as we took time to remember Matt Gallagher before kick-off. He was a valued part of the Midlands Property team and a great character off the pitch, so it was important for us to recognise that. The event itself was hugely competitive, played in the right spirit, and we’re grateful to everyone who contributed – from the teams to our sponsors – in making it such a success.”
The event was supported by a range of leading names from across the property sector, including Midlands main sponsors Stoford and Barberry – North West – Indurent, Chancerygate and JMW – Yorkshire – Panattoni, Verdion and Woodstock Capital Ventures. Additional Midlands event sponsors included Benniman, Savills, Cushman & Wakefield, Colmore Capital, Incore, Harris Lamb, M1 Agency, Caddick, Industrial Agents Society, Cormack, Landra Developments Ltd, Wilkes, Precise, CA Group, One Creative Environments, Frontier Facilities Management alongside rugby charity Wooden Spoon. Event photography was provided by David Wild, regional sales manager at TKE UK.
With strong competition on the pitch and significant funds raised off it, the Tri-Regions Property Rugby Tournament once again demonstrated the strength of the property community and its commitment to supporting worthwhile causes. The next Tri-Regions tournament will be hosted in the North West.
