Chambers Wales’ CEO Gus Williams has been appointed as a new board member of Welsh Government’s Wales Industrial Development Board (WIDAB).
Gus Williams, who is also the CEO of Wales’ largest independent accountancy and auditing firm Bevan Buckland, is one of five new members who will serve on the board for three years.
WIDAB members support the Welsh Government’s economic development objectives, as well as advising the Cabinet Secretary for Economy on the issues Welsh businesses are facing and has a statutory role scrutinising projects requesting financial support from the Economy Futures Fund.
On his appointment to the board, Gus Williams said: “I am very proud to have been appointed to WIDAB. In my role as CEO of the Chambers Wales I speak to businesses small and large about the challenges they are facing every day. While in my role heading up Bevan Buckland, I see first-hand the challenges and issues that many Welsh SMEs have to overcome, so this is a great opportunity for me to advocate on behalf of our members and clients and the wider business community.
“Through my work with WIDAB my mission will continue, to support Welsh business to succeed, to help the Welsh economy grow, and for Wales to be recognised as a great place to live and work, and to start or run a business.”
Gus added: “I am looking forward to putting my experience and insight to good use by working closely with my fellow board members, Welsh Government, and the business community over the next three years.”
Originally established under the Welsh Development Agency Act 1975, WIDAB helps Welsh Government in its ambition to drive sustainable and inclusive growth across the regions of Wales through the Economic Action Plan. Board members are appointed in their personal capacity in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
