Graduate clocks in at CBRE after career change

A graduate surveyor has joined the Birmingham office of property consultancy CBRE after successfully turning a sideline into a full-time career.

Liz Bailey had previously worked in financial service sales and recruitment, but decided it was time for a new challenge by choosing to retrain as a surveyor in 2009.

Over the past 13 years, she has also managed a personal portfolio of four residential properties, three of which are in the Midlands. After the birth of her two children, she decided to turn her hobby into a career.

Liz has a first class degree in BSc (hons) Real Estate from Birmingham City University.

Following work experience placements at firms including Jones Lang LaSalle, Savills and Colliers International, she has also won numerous property awards, including the RICS West Midlands Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Liz said: “Although my property portfolio is on a small scale, it has given me a great insight into some of the highs and lows of being a property landlord.

“I am looking forward to combining my previous work experiences to forge a successful career at CBRE and within the Birmingham property market.”

Martin Guest, head of CBRE’s Birmingham office, added: “Not only has Liz demonstrated strong interest and knowledge of the property market, we believe her experience will add value to the capital markets and offices teams she is assigned to work with.”
