Cornelius Electronics projects completed

Property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton has brought two new projects to completion for Port Talbot manufacturer Cornelius Electronics.

The projects, which have a combined value of nearly £375,000, include the refurbishment and upgrade of the company’s headquarters as well as the creation of two new commercial units at an adjacent property.

Lambert Smith Hampton was appointed to manage the design, contract administration, approvals and certification processes on the projects as well as securing the necessary planning permissions and building regulations on behalf of Cornelius Electronics – a sub-contract manufacturer of bespoke cable assemblies and wiring harnesses, established in Port Talbot over 30 years ago.

The first project involved creating a new glazed entrance foyer over two storeys, supported off a steel frame and the installation of new windows to the front elevations of the property – which is located on Purcell Avenue in Port Talbot. Stainless steel feature stairs were designed within the new lobby area while internal refurbishment included fitting out a kitchen, two toilets and upgrading a meeting room. The appointed contractor was Interserve.

The second project, which has been completed this month, involved the entire remodelling of a derelict industrial unit next door to Cornelius Electronics. The new design has split the building into two self-contained units; retaining the existing concrete portal frame but constructing and remodelling the rest of the property. Insulated colour-coated profiled metal cladding was sourced locally from Tata Steel for the insulated roofing panels and the elevations were also over clad. New office facilities have also been provided within each unit with new gas, electrical, water and drainage connections introduced within the premises. External works included new fencing and repairs. The appointed contractor following tender was A&NLewis Ltd.

Andrew Nilsen, senior architectural technician for Lambert Smith Hampton’s Building Consultancy in Wales, said: “The works undertaken for Cornelius Electronics have not only transformed their premises but the adjacent property as well, creating two new commercial opportunities in Port Talbot which were completed on time and to budget. As a property consultancy, we managed the entire design, planning and construction process to deliver a quality product for the client’s requirements. We have a strong relationship with Cornelius Electronics and look forward to continue working with them in the future.”

David Cornelius, of Cornelius Electronics, said: “We are extremely happy with the end results to the refurbishment to our building. In addition, the work undertaken to convert the adjacent unit has brought it back to life. The design and execution really hit the mark for us.”
