Senior Planner (Birmingham)

A great opportunity has arisen within a multi-disciplinary consultancy for a Senior Planner to join their expanding planning team in Birmingham. You will be joining a busy office environment of 25 people across various property disciplines and be a vital member of the planning and development offering.

Planning is one of this office’s newer disciplines having launched in Birmingham two years ago. There are planners in other offices so there is a good reputation within the market and existing work but it’s a great opportunity to help grow this further and be part of the expansion from an early stage. There are a good range of projects to get involved with including residential and mixed-use schemes, commercial sites and larger strategic sites across the Midlands (including some projects further afield).

We are looking for a strong senior planner that is MRTPI qualified, confident in front of clients and who can competently run small-medium scale projects, whilst assisting on larger schemes. You should have a good grounding in development management led work as well as a good grasp of local, regional and national planning policy. You will be organised in nature, enjoy problem-solving and working to often tight deadlines.

Your role will include feasibility/viability work, preparing and submitting planning applications, S106 negotiations, appeals, coordinating sub-consultancy teams and providing expert planning advice both to clients and internal teams. This is an excellent opportunity for progression and to make a name for yourself in the Midlands planning market. Being part of a smaller team means more autonomy, better client exposure and wider responsibility on projects which ultimately leads to great progression opportunities.
