Clientside Planning Manager (Berkshire/Hampshire area)

Posted on: 09/06/2016 ~ Company:

A unique clientside opportunity has arisen for a Planning Manager/s to join a bespoke residential developer in the South East of England just outside of Reading. You will be joining a large office in picturesque grounds around the Berkshire/Hampshire border with plenty of parking available. Commutable locations include; Reading, Newbury, Bracknell, Basingstoke, Farnham, Winchester and surrounds.

Due to a structured expansion plan, combined with an increase in the level of work, we are looking to appoint one or possibly two planners to assist the current Planning Manager in managing the organisation’s residential portfolio. The portfolio consists of high end, bespoke developments as well as larger sites across the South of England but with the highest concentration being in Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey. The schemes are a mix of both immediate and strategic sites.

We are looking for either two people (one to focus on immediate sites and one to focus on the strategic side) or one person to assist on both parts of the portfolio. The responsibilities will depend on your experience and where that fits with the requirements/portfolio, but we are looking for planners who can competently do the following:

  • Planning history and land registry searches;
  • Assessing land constraints and the land bank to help to identify potential site opportunities from a planning point of view;
  • Identify and advise on any planning issues arising through the acquisition process;
  • Planning appraisals;
  • Preparing planning statement and managing external consultants with the application, S106 and appeal process;
  • Monitoring and discharging of conditions;
  • Assisting with reserved matters;
  • Site visits when required;
  • Providing general planning advice to the multi-disciplinary office.

We are ideally looking for candidates with circa 2-5 years post qualification experience, operating around the Senior Planner level (or a strong planner). MRTPI is preferable but not essential if your experience is right. Candidates with some commercial experience either from a consultancy or developer background are preferable but we can also consider those coming from the public sector perhaps from a policy/strategic team but also with a bit of DM experience. Candidates will require an in depth knowledge of local and national planning policies. Experience in quantitative and qualitative elements of planning will be advantageous for the strategic sites and all candidates should have strong written skills, be good communicators who are confident in their advice and you should work well to deadlines.

There is really good progression with this role, both the immediate and strategic land teams are growing which inevitably means a heavier flow of planning work coming through. Therefore, the role is really what you make of it and has huge potential to grow and develop. You will be rewarded with a competitive basic salary, a company car (or allowance) and fuel card, pension and private health care.

To apply for this role please do not hesitate to contact Ruth Hoggett.
