Clientside Head of Planning (Commercial) – London

Beach Baker are working in partnership with a market leading commercial clientside organisation who are looking to recruit a chartered Town Planner as their new ‘Head of Planning’. This role will be based in their central London Head Office. This is a very high profile appointment within the organisation reporting to the National Head of Development and often having direct dialogue with the CEO as well as dealing with joint venture partnerships, local authorities and investors at the highest level. This organisation is a FTSE 100 company who own and manage a large portfolio of commercial sites across the UK. With a huge investment pipeline and a large number of major projects that will need planning attention, this is a very exciting time to join.

We are looking for a chartered Town Planner who has at least 10-15 years’ experience in the private sector. Clientside experience is preferable where candidates have been working with a commercial portfolio. We are looking for experience of coordinating large masterplan sites comprising of uses such as; retail, leisure, mixed-use, office and associated infrastructure. You must have similar retail/commercial experience and large scale sites on your CV.

Your role will be to lead the town planning process prior to and during construction in order to achieve planning permission for outline, hybrid, detailed and reserved matters applications as well as for S106 obligations, conditions and other statutory permissions. You will be managing multi-disciplinary teams, external consultancies, negotiating with authorities and consulting external stakeholders. You will also be advising internal teams with an astute commercial mindset on how the planning and development process fits with the company’s objectives.

In addition to a strong technical ability and MRTPI (or MRICS P&D) you will also be able to; influence high level stakeholders; build and maintain strong relationships with owning partners, internal colleagues, external professionals and investors; possess strong negotiation skills; flexible and adaptable in your approach; ability to manage multiple projects whilst working to tight deadlines; excellent problem solving skills and a strong decision maker.
