A14 ticks ByBox’s letting deal

The A14 upgrade has been at the heart of the latest letting announced by the Huntingdon office of Barker Storey Matthews (now part of Eddisons).

ByBox, an international software and supply chain specialist, has taken a lease on 14,630 sq ft (1,359.13 sq m) of warehouse premises at 12 Glebe Road, St Peter’s Industrial Estate in Huntingdon in a deal in which Barker Storey Matthews acted on behalf of the landlord as sole agent.

The 12 Glebe Road warehouse unit is a prominent location at what is one of Huntingdon’s leading industrial locations and is the newest depot from where ByBox is deploying its smart locker field distribution service.

ByBox was looking for improved coverage in East Anglia and had been seeking premises in the region for just two months before identifying the 12 Glebe Road warehouse.

According to Jamie Bullard, ByBox Senior Services Manager for its southern region, Huntingdon was the company’s favoured location for a new depot because of the A14 upgrade.

He said, “Having won a substantial new contract for a major utility provider, we needed to be operational from the beginning of this April (2020). Without the A14 upgrade, Huntingdon would not have been our prime target.

“With the new depot in-situ at Glebe Road, we’ve been able to conclude our local recruitment process and added another seven new employees to our UK headcount of circa 400 staff.”

Stephen Power, Director, Barker Storey Matthews, added, “Undoubtedly, the A14 upgrade has positioned Huntingdon as a pre-eminent location for logistics occupiers.

“It’s not only the new trunk road road itself, but the remodelling of the access roads and ancillary local road improvements, in our view, help make Huntingdon accessible and attractive to potential employees in a wider catchment area too.”
