Barker Storey Matthews launches final development opportunity at Fletton Quays

Barker Storey Matthews – now part of Eddisons – has just launched the final riverside development opportunity at Peterborough’s flagship Fletton Quays development.

Plots 7 & 8 front the River Nene at Fletton Quays, on the site of the former Whitworth Mill building, plus an adjacent cleared site suitable for additional development. The total area of the site is 1.41 acres (0.571 Ha) with 22,642 sq ft (2,106.30 sq m) of developable space.

Fletton Quays is already home to the new headquarters building of Peterborough City Council, a new 418 space multi-storey car park and attendant retail units.

Construction is due to commence shortly on a new 160-bed hotel for the Hilton Garden Inn chain and a brand new 85,000 sq ft ‘Government Hub’ building hosting the Passport Agency, the Environment Agency and Natural England among other office occupiers.

The Whitworth Mill building dates from the mid 19th Century and, arranged across three floors, anchors the available development site. It is designated as a ‘Building of Local Interest’ and the adjacent, cleared site once housed the mill’s grain silos.

The agreed development brief allows for conversion of the mill and the companion site for a mixed use or residential scheme. The agent advises that the local planning authority would view an element of the development for creative, media or cultural arts genre of business use as a positive attribute to any proposed scheme.

Leading the instruction, on behalf of Peterborough City Council, is Julian Welch of Barker Storey Matthews’ office in the city. Commenting on the launch of 7 & 8 Fletton Quays, he said, “Fletton Quays is setting down a marker for future development in the city centre.

“With exisiting residential development and further commercial development coming on stream soon, this site we’ve just launched is the last remaining plot with riverside frontage and, thereby, offers the final opportunity to be part of this landmark scheme on the city centre waterfront.”

Barker Storey Matthews is instructed by Peterborough City Council to market and sell the freehold interest of the development site at 7 & 8 Fletton Quays and informal tender bids are invited by Friday 17 January (2020). All viewings will need to be accompanied due to the nature and position of the site.
