Colliers International manages delivery of Bupa health centre in Manchester

A £1million health centre on Marble Street, Manchester could be the first of a chain of hotel-style ‘pay as you go’ health and wellbeing centres operated by international healthcare group Bupa.

Having relocated its 15 staff from Piccadilly, Bupa is offering clients a wide range of health and wellbeing services in the 2,150 sq ft centre at 4 Marble Street, Spring Gardens.

The centre could be the first of a chain of such purpose-built locations throughout England as Bupa looks to establish a high street presence catering for the health and wellbeing requirements of its customers.

Real estate advisors Colliers International acted as project manager on the three-month refurbishment of 4 Marble Street undertaken by specialist construction company ARDMAC.

The health centre was designed by London-based interior design and architectural practice lustedgreen, with heating and ventilation systems designed and installed by MMA Consulting Engineers Ltd.

4 Marble Street was designed to provide customers with facilities including six consultation rooms and advanced health room, changing facilities and shower room.

As the confidentiality of clinician-client conversations is of utmost importance to Bupa, all consulting rooms have been acoustically insulated with a combination of acoustically rated plaster board and ceiling tiles.

lustedgreen installed a bespoke veneer Applec panel in a honeycomb pattern in the reception area to reflect the worker bee symbol of Manchester, along with a feature wall of high-level planters to introduce biophilia to the centre.

Sarah Melia, director, Bupa Health Clinics, said; “Here at Bupa, we are always looking for ways we can improve our services and facilities and the Marble Street clinic is a perfect example of that. I am very proud of the hard work that the team has put into the clinic.”

Jonathan Stirzaker-Philips, senior surveyor, project and building consultancy at the Manchester office of Colliers International, led the project management of 4 Marble Street on behalf of Bupa.

Jonathan said: “Providing exceptional health facilities and clinicians, this outstanding centre could be the first of a chain in major cities in England as Bupa cements its position as the leading provider of person-focused healthcare with a high street presence catering for the health and wellbeing requirements of its clients.”
