Council supports innovative student housing development in Beeston

Broxtowe Borough Council has approved plans for the construction of modern and carefully considered student accommodation at 1 Queens Road East, Beeston. The site is conveniently located adjacent the main campus of The University of Nottingham and within walking distance to local amenities and good public transport routes to Nottingham city centre.

Designed by architectural practice, DL Design Studio, the quality purpose-built student accommodation supports a much-needed departure from the conversion of family homes into houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), currently observed in the borough. By doing so, the approved development offers positive change in the way student accommodation is delivered in the area, reducing the reliance on converting family housing to HMOs.

DL Design Studio’s success in obtaining approval for the development of this project is assigned to good communication between the design team and the planners at Broxtowe Borough Council, who provided constructive advice and support for the project.

Daniel Lacey, Director at DL Design Studio said, “We are pleased to have received planning approval for this development. A lot of research, collaboration and design work went into the proposals and as a result we are keen to ensure the development is delivered to a high standard.”

Most importantly, this development is a substantial milestone both from a planning and a design perspective. The project will positively contribute to the quality of purpose-built student accommodation in the area and will benefit students and local residents by reducing the reliance on family dwellings becoming HMOs.
