Dragon is breathing fire again

New life is being breathed into one of Lincoln’s historic pubs, following the successful letting of the landmark building.

Banks Long & Co has leased The Green Dragon in Broadgate to the Lemon Day Pub Company, a leisure retail business run by experienced business operators from the Lincolnshire area.

The Dragon’s General Manager Andrew Rudolf is very enthusiastic about the future of the Green Dragon as a pub and restaurant venue and pleased to announce that it has created between 10 and 15 new jobs.

And he revealed that market research, using the popular social media site Twitter, had underlined the group’s belief that the Green Dragon is a place which people are keen to see regain its historic popularity.

“We have studied Lincoln for the best part of five years, done due diligence on number of different venues, from cocktail bars to nightclubs, and looked at various opportunities,” said Mr Rudolf.

“We were attracted to The Green Dragon because it is a beautiful building which is stunning inside and also in a great location.  It has three floors and lots of potential.

“We set-up a Twitter account (@greendragon13) to gauge people’s feelings about  the venue and received the best response we have ever had to this form of research.

“Followers are genuinely interested and supportive. They care about what is happening in Lincoln and they told us they wanted a great lunchtime offer, a good evening dining experience, a fresh kitchen serving local produce, great service and value for money.”

In response to those points, and with more than a nod to The Green Dragon’s past, the venue is now opening daily,  from 11am through until closing time,  serving coffees, lunches and evening meals from 6pm to 9pm, and also real ales  – a move warmly welcomed by CAMRA members.

The flexibility offered by the building means the team at The Green Dragon are exploring  offering live entertainment. The venue can also cater for parties of up to 150 people.  Mr Rudolf added that people have already been enquiring about Christmas Party bookings.

Banks Long & Co Director James Butcher said: “The Green Dragon, which has a long history and which is situated in a prominent part of the city, attracted a lot of enquiries from people exploring pub/restaurant opportunities.

“This distinctive venue is particularly well-placed to serve the cultural quarter of Lincoln and people looking for lunchtime food during business hours or evening meals when also visiting local entertainment venues.

“Because it is situated on a busy route through the city, it is also capable of catching the attention of passing trade.  We are delighted to have leased the property to The  Lemon Day Pub Company and I  feel sure it will make a success of this business.”
