New premises a firm base for bed business to grow

The lease of new-build factory premises on a prime Leicestershire business park will help drive expansion for a local timber bed manufacturer.

Leading commercial property specialist Andrew + Ashwell has negotiated the lease of the first three new units at Wharf Way, Glen Parva, for rapidly expanding manufacturer and online sales retailer Get Laid Beds.

The company has been located in temporary accommodation on the Whittle estate at Whetstone after a blaze destroyed their former premises and those of three other businesses on Winchester Avenue Blaby in March. The firm has since been working closely with Andrew + Ashwell to find suitable long-term accommodation.

Get Laid Beds was first run from garage premises, co-founded in 2012 by former carpentry and architecture students Jean Lombard and Jonny Haskins. Early success led to the manufacture and online marketing of an ever-widening range of handmade, flat-packed beds and accessories, with a current workforce of 50 and a global reach of 197 countries.

The new buildings are currently being fitted out for a moving date in October. Nearly 30,000 sq ft of space across the three buildings will include a full manufacturing facility and spacious ground floor showrooms.

Jean Lombard said: “Andrew + Ashwell not only found us our previous premises, but have also been very supportive since the fire, both in finding temporary accommodation for us to continue doing business and also recommending the new-build premises we are hugely looking forward to moving into.

“We wanted to create somewhere that would provide a high quality working environment with a good atmosphere for our growing team of staff and the new buildings fully match our criteria.

“In the past we have always had to make space work for us, but now we are in a position to expand with plenty of room to grow.”

The new buildings here are the first three completions in a clutch of five new-build warehouse and factory premises, with planning permission for B1, B2 and B8 uses.

Buildings have internal clearance from 6m and good loading provision. The accommodation also includes first floor offices, car parking, fibre broadband connectivity, secure fencing and gated entrance, as well as a scenic location by the River Soar.

Term are agreed for the letting of Units 4 (8,124 sq ft) with the target date for completion in November.

This leaves Unit 5 of 10,202 sq ft which will be completed in December. Unit 5 is detached with 6M eaves, 1,321 sq ft first floor offices, good loading and parking, private yard, good power, gas and fibre connectivity.

Malcolm Grayson, Partner at Andrew + Ashwell, commented:

“This is an attractive new development and we were delighted to give Get Laid Beds the opportunity to move in, enabling the first three units to be let the minute they were ready – a win-win situation for tenant and landlord alike.

“With Units 1-4 being pre-let, and Unit 5 schedule to complete in December this year this is proving to be an exceptionally well received development. Ideally we would like to agree terms on Unit 5 in the coming weeks.”
