British Property Federation invites applications to join Board in push for greater diversity

New appointments at the British Property Federation include: Harvin Chohan, Apprentice Surveyor at CBRE and Chair of BPF Futures

The British Property Federation (BPF) has announced that, for the first time, it is seeking expressions of interest to join the Board from across the BPF’s membership with the aim of making a new Board appointment by the end of 2019.

The BPF has already taken significant steps to diversify its Board and a new-look Board of 12 met for the first time yesterday (Tuesday 17 September), committing itself to further changes to deliver on its commitment to promoting a more diverse and inclusive property industry.

In addition to new Junior Vice President Guy Grainger, EMEA Chief Executive at JLL, new appointments already made include:

  • Harvin Chohan, Apprentice Surveyor at CBRE and Chair of BPF Futures, bringing the voice of the next generation of industry leaders into the heart of the BPF’s decision-making,
  • Madeleine McDougall, Managing Director, Head of Real Estate and Housing at Lloyds Bank,
  • Jonathan Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Assura and Chair of the BPF’s Healthcare Committee, providing a direct link with the BPF’s 19 technical committees.

Melanie Leech, Chief Executive, British Property Federation, said:

“As the voice of the real estate industry we have committed to play our part in promoting a culture of equality and inclusion within our industry. This means ensuring that our governance aligns with our values, and we now have a more diverse board than at any time in the BPF’s history.

“However, we recognise we can go further. That is why we are today inviting expressions of interest from BPF members who would like to join the BPF Board. We are excited to see who from the industry will step up to help lead the BPF through the next stage of its journey.”

Harvin Chohan, Apprentice Surveyor, CBRE & Chair, BPF Futures, said:

“I am honoured to be appointed to join the BPF Board and I look forward to representing the next generation of real estate leaders, working collectively alongside fellow Board members to shape a real estate sector that promotes a culture of equality and inclusion.”

Jonathan Murphy, Chief Executive Officer, Assura & Chair, BPF Healthcare Committee, said:

“I’m delighted to be joining the BPF Board, and particularly look forward to supporting its work to grow the real estate sector’s contribution to creating healthier, happier and more connected communities.”
