MCS Group appoints BDM to meet business growth target

Richard Sapcote, MCS Group

Ambitious construction contractor MCS Group has appointed Richard Sapcote to target significant growth in new sectors as the Midlands-based company continues to grow.

Richard has been appointed in the role of business development manager and will seek to secure fast-track projects ranging from £50,000 to £15 million.

His extensive experience in construction includes a period as bid manager at Willmott Dixon, working at the firm’s Birmingham office, to support the successful pre-construction team with pre-qualifications, tenders and two-stage bids. At Seddon Construction he managed the Birmingham operations team and successfully raised the profile in the Midlands.

Richard said: “Joining MCS Group at this point in its development is a very exciting opportunity. This is a new role for the business, which traditionally operates largely in the automotive and industrial sector across UK, currently turning over £140m.

“My target is to secure opportunities in new sectors which align to the skills of the highly motivated team here. This strategic marketing approach matches my career which has, over the last 20 years, been in a client-facing role.”
MCS Group managing director Keir Edmonds said: “Richard is very well known in the construction sector and has had an impressive career in a range of very senior roles over the years.

“I’m delighted to welcome him to the team. He brings his experience and industry knowledge to a new role in which he will target growth in sectors we have identified as being key for the further growth of MCS Group.”

Richard, who lives in Claverdon Warwickshire, where MCS Group is currently based, has worked predominantly in the SME contracting sector, holding positions as construction director and business development; most recently heading up pre-construction teams and technical writing on bids.

His name is familiar in the construction sector from his time managing Birmingham-based family regional contractor William Sapcote & Sons Ltd, which was respected for high quality work particularly in the restoration sector, employing more than 40 skilled craftspeople.

Industry interests include being a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), a former Trustee of CIOB and a member of both the Birmingham Civic Society planning committee.

MCS Groupwill soon complete construction of its new 8,500 sq ft office headquarters in Haywood Road, Warwick, in a £2.5 million investment. The company, which operates in the industrial/warehouse, motor, retail, commercial and education sectors, is currently constructing several warehouse units at sites across the UK. The company has built and refurbished more than 300 car dealerships including Audi, BMW, Aston Martin, Porsche, Mclaren and Jaguar Land Rover.
