Birmingham 2022 Team select location for new headquarters

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (the OC) has confirmed that its new headquarters will be in Brindley Place. The team, which is organising the region’s biggest ever sport and cultural event, is expected to move into One Brindley Place, in Birmingham city centre, in a couple of weeks and has agreed to lease the 73,000 square foot, five floor office until December 2022.

Quickly expanding in recent months, the Birmingham 2022 team now has 31 employees, with more new recruits expected to join in the next few weeks. By the start of the Games, which will be held from 27 July to 7 August 2022 – twenty years after the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games and ten years on from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – the organisation, which is responsible for planning and delivering the Games, could employ more than 1,000 people.

Ian Reid, Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham 2022 said: “I’m delighted that we have finalised arrangements for our new headquarters and we’re excited about moving in very soon. The new office is in a great location for us, in the heart of Brindley Place and very close to Birmingham city centre. It’s even just a few minutes’ walk from one of our official venues – Arena Birmingham – so that will certainly help to focus our minds every day.

“We’ve had a strong recruitment drive in recent weeks and the team has tripled in size since the end of last year, so we’re looking forward to having more space.”

Located in the heart of Brindley Place, the office has large open floorplates wrapped around a central glazed atrium. It is surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops, gyms and bars, helping to make it an attractive location for current and new team members.
