New homeware shop in Cowbridge opens

West Hampton has opened a new homeware and interior designer shop in a newly redeveloped unit at Old Mason’s Yard shopping arcade in Cowbridge High Street.

Independent property specialists Cooke & Arkwright acted on behalf of the owners of the scheme, S Andrews & Sons (Pwllheli) Limited, to secure a 15-year lease for Peter Knowles and Andy Bradshaw, co-owners of West Hampton.

Cooke & Arkwright’s Property Management team also manages the scheme on behalf of the owners.

West Hampton will be the latest addition to the Hampton interior brand which currently has two other stores; Hampton in Penarth town centre and Shore along the Penarth seafront.

The landlord has redeveloped Old Mason’s Yard, combining two existing units to create a single storey ground floor retail unit facing High Street. Close liaison with the new tenant ensured that the unit suited its requirements.

The 1,200 sq ft site sells homeware items with a country living theme and has created four full and part-time jobs in the area.
Dominic Garner, surveyor at Cooke & Arkwright said: “We’re pleased to have been able to work with Hampton to secure a new site for the latest addition to their brand.

“It’s always encouraging to see independent retailers thriving in the local community, and we’re definitely seeing this trend in Cowbridge. West Hampton makes a great contribution to the current offer of retailers and restaurants in the Arcade.

“The new store has opened in good time for Christmas, which is perfect for local shoppers to buy homeware gifts for the festive season in a brand-new retail unit.”

Peter Knowles, co-owner of West Hampton said: “We’re excited to have expanded the Hampton brand into Cowbridge. Many of our Penarth customers previously told us that they had travelled from Cowbridge, which is why we knew it would be the ideal location for our new store.

“Cooke & Arkwright has helped us to source a modern and flexible space on the high street by liaising with all parties during the redevelopment and refurbishment of the site. Thanks to them, we’ve been able to design a bespoke extension which will house our country living themed products.”

Sarah Smith of S Andrews and Sons said: “We and our other tenants are very pleased that Hamptons have opened here. They are a valued addition to our mix of occupiers. They sell an inspiring range of products and we are sure that they will be very successful.”
